Hacking the trunk of the tree with an axe will enable the liquid Benzoin to accumulate beneath the bark, or seep from the incision(s), which flows down and hardens into lumps. The resin, also called gum benzoin or benjamin, ranges in color from pale yellow to red brown. The Siam and Sumatra Benzoins are the types most widely used. The resin or gum is used for medicinal purposes as well as an aromatic in perfumes. Benzoin has antiseptic, expectorant, carminative, diuretic, stimulant, astringent, antioxidant, and preservative properties. - - - - - - - - - - - - Back to Top - - - - - - - - - - - - Benzoin Uses & Scientific Evidence For Benzoin tincture, when diluted with water, works well on dry, cracked, and chapped skin.
