Dong Quai General Information
Dong Quai is said to be one of the most important herbs for strengthening the blood, but in actuality, refers to a complex concept of which the blood itself is only a part. In the late 1800s Eumenol, an extract of Dong Quai, became popular in Europe as a “female tonic”, and today, Dong Quai is used primarily for the same purpose.

Dong Quai Uses & Scientific Evidence For
Dong Quai is often used in the treatment of menstrual cramps, or dysmenorrhea and PMS, hot flashes, and other menopausal symptoms. Dong Quai is thought to be more effective when used in traditional herb formulas, such as Dong Quai and Paeonia, and Bupleurum and Dong Quai, which are prescribed for treating certain menopausal symptoms, menstrual pain, fibrocystic breast disease, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Dong Quai 4 is a popular formula taken to treat menstrual irregularity, menstrual pain, anemia, and insomnia. Although these formulas are frequently used, there is no scientific evidence that they are effective.

Dong Quai Dosage Information
For proper dosages it is best to consult a competent Chinese herbalist that can tell you which formula would best meet your needs. It is recommended you take Dong Quai under the supervision of a qualified Chinese herbalist because it is difficult to self-prescribe Chinese herbal formulas.
