Native American Indians used a boiled extract of the roots as a remedy for nervous tension, and early settlers used it as a sleep aid when valerian was not available. In the 19th century, Ladys Slipper root was prescribed for hysteria, delirium, irritability, headache, epilepsy, and neuralgia. This plant has sedative and antispasmodic properties. - - - - - - - - - - - - Back to Top - - - - - - - - - - - - Ladys Slipper Uses & Scientific Evidence For Today, Ladys Slipper is scarce and therefore costly to use, but can still be used as a sedative and natural relaxant.
