Linden General Information
During the Middle Ages, people carved images of the Virgin Mary and figures of the saints from Linden wood. The Germans claimed the tree was sacred and could bring fertility and prosperity to couples in love. As a folk medicine, the flowers have been used to soothe nerves and treat health problems associated with anxiety, hysteria, indigestion brought on by anxiety, irregular heartbeat, and vomiting. The flower also has flavonoids, which act as antioxidants, volatile oil, and mucilage components, which soothes and reduces inflammation. The whole plant has astringent qualities.
