In Sanskit botany this shrub is named Lions Muzzle and Stallions Tooth after the shape and color of its flowers. This bitter-tasting nut has expectorant, diuretic, antispasmodic, alterative, bronchial dilation, antiseptic and pesticidal properties. The leaves of the plant contain the alkaloid vasicine, which is key to bronchial-dilation and its expectorant actions, and stimulates the contraction of uterine muscles, which accelerates or induces labor.
